Doggy Day Dedicated to Woody Butman

Woody (2003-2015)

Woody (2003-2015)

This year, our Doggy Day in the Maze event on November 1st takes on a new meaning as we say goodbye to our furry friend, Woody.

We are sad today to say that we have lost our best friend. From the moment we chose Woody as a pup we knew he was special. That block head and those big paws and his lovable goof ball personality. We knew he would light up our home and provide so many great memories for us as well as our family and friends. He was a true gift from God.

Woody went through extensive dog training as a pup and working with him we especially developed a true bond. He was our pal, companion, boo, our good egg, confidant and a true Mama’s boy! Woody traveled a lot especially throughout the summer on trips to Wolfeboro, NH, Camping in Maine, Cape Cod & Upstate New York. We spent a lot of time together. He was the center of our universe and whatever he needed we got it for him. He got a full fenced in yard, 3 dog beds, a camper, a car he could get easily in and out of as well as a three season porch with dog door built for him. Woody traveled to many bluegrass festivals and enjoyed swimming and walks. He was one spoiled boy but deserved every second of it because the love he brought to our hearts was so genuine and true.

Woody had a great love for music. Either he would howl to tunes or rummage through his toy box when a song came on. To know he was the ring bearer in our wedding is such a special moment for us. The rings that bond my husband and I also bond us together with Woody. We will miss the dog hair on our clothes, around the house and even in our lunches. We will never forget his smile.

Even though we have a heavy heart and it will take quite some time to recover from the pain of losing our fury four legged friend we know that he had a good life. The joy he gave to us is irreplaceable.

Help us celebrate “man’s best friend” and remember Woody on November 1st. Bring your dog for a day at the farm, explore the corn maze, and enjoy our many other farm attractions!

* Dorothy Hyde-Williams founded the Nathaniel J. Williams Foundation when her son Nate was killed in an accident at the age of 23. Doing business as Assistance Canine Training Services (A.C.T.S.), the Foundation was founded with a mission of training service dogs for people with physical disabilities, and therapy dogs for professionals working with people who may benefit from animal assisted therapy.

Dorothy started breeding Golden Retrievers in 1994. Over the years, she built a reputation for producing smart, calm, and trainable dogs. In 2001 she donated and raised one of her puppies to a local service dog organization. In the years following she raised and donated a number of other puppies to the same organization.

Dorothy also started obedience training classes for the public and has been a successful trainer for a number of years. Her practical approach to dog training has made her popular with local veterinarians, pet shop owners, and groomers, who recommend her services regularly.

After years of dog training, breeding, and service dog work, Dorothy, started considering the idea of starting her own service dog training organization. With the death of her son, she made the decision to move forward with her dream. With the help of friends and family, Dorothy created the Nathaniel J. Williams Foundation, doing business as A.C.T.S., in Nate’s memory.

In 2007 the Foundation became a 501(c)(3) non-profit and in 2009 the first service dogs were placed.
